How might we find people who are curious about user experience design? That is the question that we set out to answer in January 2010. Since then, UXCamp DC has become more than just an annual event, it's become a community of curious designers.
Why an unconference? Before launching UXCamp DC, we attended other unconferences and thought that this open forum might work. After all barcamps were already a thing, e.g. WordCamp and UXCamp London. We set out to produce the first UXCamp in the US, not just DC. In January 2010, we found our tribe of people curious about user experience design. Ten years later, we've built a community of user experience designers who come back year after year. Why only 150 curious designers?
Dunbar's number is 150. We're building a community of people curious about user experience design, not competing with large conferences. |

What's the day like?
When the doors open at 9 am, you'll get the chance to sign up to present on a topic. You'll introduce yourself and pitch your session topic in the morning or afternoon for 60 seconds or less. Every hour on the hour, starting at 10 am, there are four simultaneous sessions with 15 minutes between sessions. Lunch is on your own. Make the most of it by hanging out with old and new friends. After lunch, we come back to the main space for afternoon pitches. At the end of the day, we gather one last time in the main space to wrap up and raffle prizes from our generous sponsors. |
