Meet Great People
At UXCamp DC, you might meet your next colleague or boss. You’ll definitely meet cool, interesting like-minded people who will introduce you to new concepts and ideas, challenge some of your preconceived notions and open your mind to new ideas. Follow up with people, follow them on twitter and tweet the awesome things that you hear at UXCamp. Thanks for being so engaged.
Learn Interesting Things
UXCamp DC speakers range from newbie UX students to experienced UX pros who have been in the field for several years. Participants come from a myriad of backgrounds, working across several industries and fill different roles, from Project and Product Managers to Information Architects, Designers, Developers to UX Designers and Researchers. With such rich and varied participant backgrounds, past talks include topics like UX Heuristics to Building Design-Infused Organizations and Responsive Prototyping with WordPress. Here’s an archive of some of the talks.
Start your UX Speaking Career
We need you to share your knowledge. UXCamp DC is all about sharing what you know and what you’ve learned (both the good and the bad). Have an idea about something you want to learn or a challenge you are facing at work or in your career? Offer to lead a talk or a panel discussion and get the feedback you need to help solve your challenge. If you don’t feel comfortable leading a talk, invite some people to join you for lunch and stage a mini-brainstorming session. You’ve got 45 minutes and the support of your UX peers. We’re looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Win Cool Stuff
It wouldn’t be UXCamp DC without an afternoon raffle. Stick around to the end of the day and you’ll receive a red raffle ticket that could win you a cool UX book or something completely different.
Hang Out with Cool People
You’ve met some cool people, it’s the end of the day and you still haven’t had a chance to connect. Buy them a beer at happy hour and keep in touch. We’ve watched people grow their careers using the connections they have made at UXCamp DC. We’ve had authors and national speakers who got their start at UXCamp DC. You could be next.
Bonus Questions about UXCamp
Do I need to prepare a talk?
It’s up to you. Some people lead discussions and talks with just a whiteboard. Others bring PowerPoint Presentations and Props. Do whatever you need to feel comfortable. If you are planning a talk, you’ll have 45 minutes to speak and field questions.
Who is speaking?
We don’t have a preset agenda of speakers; speaker slots are filled first thing in the morning. You and your fellow participants are the speakers. Slots are 45 minutes with 15 minutes between sessions. Worried you picked the wrong session to attend and you won’t like it? We’re not, but if something isn’t what you expected, just find another session. No one will be offended.
What’s for lunch?
That’s up to you. We picked the Chinatown/Penn Quarter location for a reason. There are tons of fast casual and sit-down options within a block or two of the District Architecture Center and we give you a good hour and a half so you don’t have scarf down your lunch. Oh, and make some new friends during lunch. You won’t regret it.
What if I missed out on buying a ticket?
There are no tickets sales at the door. You can add your name to the waiting list. No guarantees that you’ll get a ticket. If you know someone who has a ticket but can’t go, have them transfer it to you. You can also join us at UXCamp NYC in June. Follow @UXCampNYC for details.
Do you record the sessions?
Yes, some. But we much rather you be there in person to see the talks.
